ReMed, a Collage Rehabilitation Partner is seeking a PRN Speech Language Pathologist to join our team for our facilities in Covington, LA. For more than 35 years, we’ve developed programs to meet the diverse needs of clients with moderate to severe traumatic and acquired brain injuries. We provide treatment for post-concussion syndrome, stroke, memory loss, neurobehavioral issues and accident or sports-related head injuries.  

 

Responsibilities

  The Speech Language Pathologist provides evaluation and treatment of residents with speech, language, cognitive, linguistic and swallowing disorders as a result of acquired brain injury.  Participates in residents’ programs, goal setting and provides written progress reports to program / case manager and / or family.

 

OUTCOMES AND KEY TASKS:

  • Develops therapeutic intervention targeted to resident needs including resident, staff and family training and education.
  • Negotiates appropriate goals for the resident.
  • Diagnostic evaluation of residents’ speech / language and cognitive needs utilizing current assessment tools.
  • Implements treatment plan, monitors and documents resident response to interventions.
  • Instruction and supervision of LSTs as related to the speech / language therapy program / needs.
  • Communicates residents’ programs to direct care staff to allow for appropriate follow-through.
  • Completes all written documentation according to facility standards.
  • Develops and implements creative, goal directed programs for individual speech/cognitive activities.
  • Participates in resident discharge planning and transition into the community when appropriate.
  • Provides education and training for the resident, family and payer as requested by the program / case manager.
  • Effectively communicates resident information formally and informally to the Residential Services Manager, other staff members, families and payers.
  • Maintains resident and family satisfaction with the individualized speech/cognitive therapy treatment plan.
  • Effectively engages residents and families in developing treatment goals, considering their perceptions of their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Participates in program development and staff education in areas related to speech, language and cognition as requested by the Residential Services Manager or Operations Manager.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology
  • National certification.
  • State licensure, if mandated by the state.
  • Knowledge of treatment techniques for neurologically impaired residents.
  • Ability to identify individual functional needs of each resident based upon cognitive, speech / language, behavioral deficits.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Relevant experience.
  • Demonstrates ability to develop and implement flexible and creative treatment options.
  • Utilizes a functional approach to the re-mediation of neurological deficits.
  • Able to transport residents to appointments and community activities
  • Assist with resident transfers when assigned or as necessary
  • Ability to lift (50) pounds unassisted
